Literary Works
In total, Alexie has written over 300 pieces of works. All of these relating to his experiences as a Indian and the struggles he faced through his life. The books I chose to read by Alexie were The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, Indian Killer, and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.
The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven
This is known to be one of Alexie's most famous works. This novel like book is a collect of many short stories of two prominent characters, Victor Joseph and Thomas Builds-The-Fires. This story is about the two living on the Spokane Indian reservation. This book is unique due to Alexie's way of writhing incorporating flashbacks, dreams, and imagery to convey his message. Indian Killer
This novel is about a terror that happend in Seattle. A Native American had a urge to kill white people and he succeeded with his plan. What is greatly notable about this book is the point of view. Here, Alexie uses his skills to express the whole story in a third person view, making sure each character has a equal balance of spotlight. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
Alexie's first young adult is auto-biographical in nature and is one of his most recent and popular books. This story is about Arnold Spirit, Jr. who is representing Alexie as a teen. It is very controversial as it touches on the truth and realities of a teenager no one would ever dare to write about in public. |
